Curt Warner is a former professional American football player who played as a running back in the National Football League (NFL) from 1983 to 1990. Warner was born on March 18, 1961, in Pineville, West Virginia. He played college football at Penn State University and was a member of the 1982 National Championship team. Warner was selected in the first round of the 1983 NFL Draft by the Seattle Seahawks, where he played for six seasons.
During his time with the Seahawks, Warner became one of the most dominant running backs in the league, earning three Pro Bowl selections and two First-Team All-Pro honors. He was also named the AFC Offensive Player of the Year in 1983 and the NFL Offensive Player of the Year in 1986. In 1983, Warner set the NFL rookie record for most total yards (1,774) and was named the AP NFL Offensive Rookie of the Year.
After his time with the Seahawks, Warner played two seasons for the Los Angeles Rams, where he battled injuries and was ultimately released in 1993. He briefly played for the AFC Richmond Braves of the Arena Football League before retiring from the sport.
Warner finished his NFL career with 6,844 rushing yards, 1,048 receiving yards, and 56 touchdowns. He was inducted into the Seattle Seahawks Ring of Honor in 1994 and the College Football Hall of Fame in 2009.
